About Tiny Homes Project
Dennehotos Chapter began a Tiny Home project in June 2024 to provide more housing for families. The chapter purchased 8 modular homes with ARPA funds. The housing committee selected the homeowners. We then realized that more families are In need of homes. Utah trust funds donated windows and supplies. Freeport and Morgan contributed grant money for building the tiny home.
In the summer the of 2024, as a project for the student youth workers, we disassembled a double-wide trailer that had been sitting on the Chapter Property for more than 15 years. The trailer was not in livable conditions, so we too it apart and realized there was good lumber, including 2×4’s and 2×6’s. We decided to salvage the wood, cut one of the floors in half, and weld metal posts to the homes to reinforce it. We hired a couple of PEP workers to supervise and help build the home; student youth and workforce workers were also hired to assist with the construction.
Building the tiny home allowed the youth to learn how to use measurement and tools. More importantly, they gained knowledge about how to interact, build teamwork, communicate, and develop trust. Team building not only encourages collaboration but also enhance problem-solving skills and social abilities, such as active listening and effective speaking, which boost self-confidence, reduce bullying, and prepare students for future success.
