The Dennehotso Chapter wanted to implement the greenhouse as a learning tool to educate our Summer Youth students. The greenhouse was constructed earlier last year, and the Summer Youth students set a goal to care for the plant vegetation and maintain ideal growing conditions.
When the idea of building a greenhouse was first introduced, everyone was excited to take on a sense of responsibility and care for something that belonged to us. The plan included deciding what crops to plant, establishing a regular watering routine, and monitoring moisture levels. Through this process, the Summer Youth learned the importance of proper plant care and the responsibility that comes with maintaining the greenhouse.
The Summer Youth students planted pumpkins, green onions, watermelons, squash, cantaloupes, jalapeños, and other vegetables. They understand the importance of caring for the greenhouse and teaching others how to maintain it in the future. Today, the greenhouse is enjoyed by both Summer Youth and community members as a place to learn about plants, socialize, and enjoy nature.
The Dennehotso Community Garden is a lively place where members of our local community can come together to plant vegetables and work side by side. Every summer, our SYTEP students are hired by the Chapter and assigned meaningful projects. The students enjoy planting vegetables, watering the garden, pulling weeds, and helping keep the area clean, healthy, and well-maintained.
